Emergency Grants

In emergency situations, the Foundation may make grants outside of its Annual Grant cycle. The Foundation will consider such emergency requests only when the following criteria are satisfied:

  • The applicant meets the Foundation’s Annual Grant criteria.
  • The nature of the emergency requires a decision prior to the Foundation’s next Annual Grant cycle.
  • The applicant had no reasonable expectation that the emergency would occur and was therefore unable to include the request in its previous Annual Grant application.
  • The emergency threatens to disrupt critical legal aid to low-income persons.
  • Other funding is not available to meet and address the emergency.

To apply for an Emergency Grant, please send a letter of request to the Foundation’s Grants Manager. The request should include:

  • A brief description of the applicant organization
  • A list of current members of the program’s Board of Directors
  • A description of the need for which funds are sought and an explanation of why the need cannot be addressed through the Foundation’s Annual Grant process and/or other funding sources
  • A budget form
